The Bathing Beauties Festival fill the beach and the beach huts of Mablethorpe, Sutton On Sea and Sandilands with a wild assortment of artistic splendour; music, poetry, fire, performances, film and drama.


Arabian Delights - Belly Dancing

The Arabian Delights are a local belly dance group.  They enjoy meeting, having fun, dressing up and keeping fit, rehearsing through the winter to perform at local events and festivals and provide workshops for the public to join in the fun.

Beach Hut Lantern Workshop

Beach Hut Lantern Workshop

In this workshop participants can decorate their own tissue paper lantern that celebrates the iconic British seaside landmark the Beach Hut!  The lanterns can be decorated in a variety of bright colours just as the real life huts so colourfully are.  The handheld lanterns are lightweight making them great for little hands.  This workshop is great for children and even for the odd adult too!

Ben River Band - Modern Alternative Folk Music

Ben River

Modern alternative folk songs from singer and songwriter Ben River.  Ben River was brought up in West London, Ladbroke Grove and has been on a weird and wonderful musical journey ever since.  Accompanied by acoustic guitar, bass and accordion.  "Ben River - Singer, songwriter and poet playing melodic folk pop, sounding like Rufus Wainwright meets Mumford and Sons meets Tallest Man on Earth"

Charlie is a classic standard (larger) Shetland and grey in colour.  Charlie is a cheeky, happy friendly character and enjoys the company of children.  Charlie is a safe fun ride and is a favourite at The Stables he has pretty colours in his mane and tail, he loves to dress up and his favourite colour is pink!

Rosie and Lucy Coggle are twin sisters who grew up near Louth.  Having both completed the Folk and Traditional Music degree course at Newcastle University they have developed their love of folk music which they grew up with and have now become great performers in their own right.  Together Rosie and Lucy play a wide range of material including many of their own interpretations of traditional and folk tunes as well as some contemporary and self composed sets.  Together they perform in a powerful and interactive manner both showing high levels of skill and enthusiasm.

Pete Montford is the half human, half machine, coin-operated artist.  With the help of his black and white striped accomplice named OTTER he challenges you to enter and take part in his new way of being, as the living side-show attraction.  As the master of Pete's life support machine, OTTER stands outside and sets the challenge to anyone willing to get involved.  Participants must remember OTTER's body movements and rhymes before translating them into the correct combination of actions to perform when they meet Pete.  All winners receive a prize!

The Culture Cart - Mobile Craft Workshop

The Culture Cart

A hand-crafted, cart, drawn by an English gentleman on a vintage bicycle will travel around Sutton on Sea hosting a range of lino printing workshops, inspired by Sutton on Sea's historical and cultural heritage.

The Culture Cart is both a catalyst for learning high quality craft and a hub for creative collaboration.  The Culture Cart aims to develop social links between residents and the general public through learning craft.

Throughout Bathing Beauties festival the public will learn traditional lino printing techniques, as well as the creative process of creating high quality pieces of artwork.  Come along, learn a new skill and have fun making prints with The Culture Cart!

The Eccentric Gents present Dr Pandemonious Fish and his gentleman, Beardsley in "Around the World by Land, Air and Sea".

Join intrepid adventurer Dr.Pandemonious Fish and his beleaguered butler Archibald Beardsley as they attempt to circumnavigate the local area by land, air and sea.  They are proud to possess all the accoutrements required for luxury travel including their own land-borne galleon.  These two preposterous throwbacks from a bygone era will bring seaside frolics and the halcyon days of summers past to the bathing beauties festival.

Martin Pease - French / Bavarian style Accordion Music

Martin Pease

Martin has been playing the accordion for 45 years (25 years of which were professional).  He has spent 15 years in France to play the Cafe du Paris style and 2 years in Germany playing the typical Bavarian oom pah music.  Martin now resides semi-retired in Mablethorpe and can often be seen busking/playing in and around the area.

Miss Popularity is a one-woman balloon party!  She creates spectacular balloon creations while entertaining her crowd with silly games, unimportant facts and overflowing joy.  Come see her to smile, laugh and get a clever balloon to take home.

Mr Wippy and the Conettes - Musical Theatre

Mr Wippy and the Conettes

Mr Wippy and the Conettes is a piece of mobile, musical theatre based in an antique ice cream van.  The styling is reminiscent of 1940's American 'Cheesecake' art and the saucy seaside postcard art of pre-war Britain, tailored to suit family audiences.  The theme of the show is ice cream and it is 20mins long.  The characters: Mr. Wippy - the compere and crooner, Knickerbocker Glory (AKA Strawberry Sauce) the leading lady and The Conettes-the two backing singers, all sing and dance familiar Hollywood musical numbers with rewritten lyrics.  After shows the cast offer short dance workshops to members of the audience, all ages are welcome.

Returning to Bathing Beauties for a second year running, No Relevance are back to rock the beachfront with their eclectic mix of rock and indie covers.

Finalists at the 2012 Lincs FM Battle of the Bands Competition, No Relevance's setlist consists of popular tunes from the past five decades, so their shows always have something for everyone.  Be sure not to miss it!

Punch And Judy

Mablethorpe man Paul Douglas - aka Duggy - first picked up Punch and Judy aged just six-years-old and now boasts 50 years experience handling the unruly 16th century puppets.  Years ago,Paul would perform them along with a traditional magic show and balloon modelling every summer on Mablethorpe's seafront.  He's dusted off the puppets to join us again at the Bathing Beauties Festival.

Two Step - Jazz, Funk, RnB & Indie

Two Step

An aspiring five-piece band from the UK; Two Step have been gigging for over a year, but recently have begun to focus on writing original material.  Drawing from a wide range of influences, the band has quickly developed a well-matured sound; with elements of jazz, funk and RnB all present in their music, behind an unmistakeable indie chime.

The band members met while studying at Queen Elizabeths Grammar School Alford, and are currently sitting their A levels.
